ASL -> American Sign Language, where does it come?
 French Sign Language was brought to USA during the early 1800s mixed with local sign, evolve and and now known as ASL.

Christine is deaf. At first, she thought sound was not part of her life but then she realized sounds was much part of her life. she understands sounds by watching how people behave and respond to sound. peoplw like her loudspeaker and simplify sound. she learns the behaviour in mirror. she also saw how people respond to her.
sound etiquette -> she thinks it is more than the average hearing person does.

the deaf culture, movement is equivalent to sound.
in 2008, she traveled to Berlin for an artist residency as a painter. she went from one to another place. there was no visual and it stuck her.

sound, it does not have to be something experienced through the ears, it could be felt actually or experienced as a visual even an idea.

sound is like money, power, conrol. sound is powerful. it could empower or disempower.
and Christine choose to be wmpowered.

when deaf don't use literal voice to communicate in social life, as if they don't have sound at all. so they need to work with those who support them as an equal and become their voice. she took sound as new art medium into music. and there was a similarities between music and ASL.

ASL like a music, distance from your body can express different ideas in time.
ASL alive and thriving just like music.

We need to think what defines social currency and allow ASL to develop its own form of currency without sound, to lead more inclusive society.

we don't have to be deaf to learn ASL.
ASL is a rich treasure.
